Our U14A girls team just won SILVER today at the U14 state champs in Tamworth. The girls were in the hardest Group. 1st, 2nd and 3rd places all went to teams in our Group.
It wasn't an easy path to the GF, so I thought I would summarise it below.
After the preliminary games, and some playoffs, the top six teams played off in a tri final series. Out of the three games, the winning team with the highest goal margin would progress direct to the GF, with the other two winners playing a semi final, with the winner progressing to the GF, loser taking 3rd place.
Our tri final was first, we beat Drummoyne 3-1 after going into the final qtr 1-1. 2 goal difference not much of a chance of progressing to GF. 2nd Tri Final UNSW v Tamworth. Tamworth won 2-1. 1 goal difference. It then came down to the third tri final, Cronulla A v Hunter. We could not believe it when the final siren went and it was 4-4. They had to go to golden goal, which meant no matter who won - the result would be a 1 goal difference. Breaker's straight through to GF!
Semi between Hunter and Tamworth saw Tamworth fight back from 4-2 to win 4-5 with 3 seconds on the clock.
Grand Final Breaker's v Tamworth. I can't give an exact story as I was actually at Tamworth airport receiving updates via text (thank you Carolyn). Every time my phone went off, I think everyone at Tamworth airport turned to hear the progressive score. At the end of the 4th qtr it was 4-4. Extra time played - 2 x 3min, still no goals scored, so then to penalty shoot out. A BIG congratulations to the girls that took the penalty shots at goal. An even BIGGER congratulations to EVIE our goalie. Although Tamworth got just that one extra goal in then Breaker's, you should all be very proud of your achievement.
Congratulations to all the girls in the team, congrats to Peter Simons our coach, last year took Breaker's U14's to Gold, this year Silver - not a bad result. Thank you to Carolyn and Stuart Wiseman for all your hard work and a final thank you to all the parents who all pitched in and made the trip a fun, EVENTFUL and successful State Champs.
Well done.
