Teams made up of present and former Breakers players had tremendous success at the Sydney World Masters Games and established the Breakers as the most successful individual club participating in the Games, from anywhere in the World, collecting two gold and two bronze team medals. Of the 7 age categories in the Mens' competitions, from Over 30 years to Over 60 years, teams from 4 separate Eastern European countries took gold medals. Of the remaining 3 gold medals, two went to the Breakers, the only club in the WORLD to Gold (as a verb) twice.

The Breakers Over 60 years team led the way. Under the watchful eye of their coach, multi-Olympian Michael Withers, and manager Jon Kirkwood, the team was very well prepared. On the way to the gold medal they encountered tough opposition against an Hungarian team chock full of former Olympians. The outstanding players were the experienced former Australian and Scottish international, and Olympian, Bob Menzies and Ray Mendels, as well as over worked goal keepers Donnie Sarkies and Mark Persi. In the gold medal game, Bob Cope scored the goal of the competition on the final bell in the top left corner of the goal, which left the opposing goalkeeper floundering. The GOLD medal team; Don Sarkies, Mark Persi, Bob Menzies, Ray Mendels, Roy Woodhouse, Peter Waterman, Jan Mader, Dave Malone, Bob Cope, Rex Beachley, Jon Kirkwood, John Pagden, Peter Burge-Lopez, Phil Bennett - tactical and team coach, Michael Withers. In the Over 55 and 50 years competitions, Breakers players combined with players from the Parramatta club. The Over 55 team also picked up a GOLD medal and they too had a very tough encounter with an Hungarian team, as well as a very competitive team from Cronulla. A Russian team was demolished as though they were not there. The members of the Over 55 years team were Michael O'Carroll, Rob Taylor, Stewart Murray and Phil Brand.
In the Over 50 years competition, the Breakers players had to settle for BRONZE behind a very strong Hungarian team and a Cronulla team that was full of former Australian representatives. A highlight of the tournament was a goal by Bill Andronicos against the Hungarians and the way he dealt with them to ensure he came out on top when anything was on offer. The medalists from the Breakers were Dave Webb, Jon Brooker, Bill Andronicos, Mike O'Carroll, Geoff Smith and Stew Murray. Calling themselves the Manly Fairy Penguins, the Breakers Over 40 team found the former Soviet Union team from Kazakhstan too hard to handle but were rewarded with a further BRONZE medal. Team members; Kyle Williams, David Hoschke, Trent McCann, Maris Luidmanis, Warren Smith, Eddie Wolohan, Paul Burnett, John Mangrum, Lawrence Ellenwood, Axel Hillemacher. In addition, playing as guest players, Michael Westdorp, with the Bavarian Tigers in the Over 40 competition, and Adrian Ciano, Ian Guard and James Akhurst, with QVS Barbarians in the Over 30 years, picked up Silver medals . It was a great week of water polo and many acquaintances, spanning decades, were re-established. Teams are in the course of trialing for selection for the next World Masters Games in Turin, Italy, in 2013 .
